As I had mentioned in my last post I am making cakes and crafts as a way to get some money during the summer. My first order was to make a 9x13 Marble sheet cake with Whipped Cream Frosting. I had never made a marble cake before so I was a little nervous... ^^; I found a recipe on BakingBites.com and it was a lot easier then I had originally thought, and I had a lot of fun making the swirls!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of cocoa powder
- 3 tbsp water, hot
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups sugar*don't get confused. Will explain*
- 1/2 cup butter = 1 stick
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup milk
Start preheating your oven at 350 F, and prepare your 9x13 cake baking pan. First make the cocoa part of the cake. Take your cocoa powder, 1/4 sugar, 1.2 tsp vanilla extract and hot water. Whisk them together in a medium bowl. Once that is done set it aside for later use. In a larger bowl sift flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. *I personally love to sift* Get your beaters ready cause now it's time to cream your butter and sugar. Once everything is all creamy beat in your eggs one at a time. Now add the other tsp of vanilla extract and sour cream. When it is done take that batter and mix it together with the flour mixture. Put it in 1/3 of the mixture at a time, you don't want to put it all in at once. Now you're going to take a cup of the cake batter and mix it into the cocoa mixture. This is where it get's fun! Pour part of the white mixture in parts of the cake pan, and the cocoa in other parts also. Keep interchanging the batters until it's all in the pan. Now take a rubber spatula and make back and forth movements in the batter. Not only will this make the cake look nice but it also get's rid of the air bubbles. Place in the oven 32 minutes. Test the cake by putting a toothpick in it, if it comes out clean the cake is done!
Whipped Cream Frosting
Ingredients
- 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup powder sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 TBSP non flavored gelatin
- 3 TBSP hot water
take gelatin and hot water in a small pan and cook on low to medium heat for about 3 minutes. Use mixer and mix whipping cream until thicken, add sugar and vanilla. Mix again until smooth. Mix in gelatin.
Sadly my order got canceled in the middle of baking, but like they say in Broadway THE SHOW MUST GO ON!! ^^; The cake turned out great and I shared it with some of my friends.
